Head Brewer sinks in Land Rover competitions

Titanic Brewery sponsored their Head Brewer Ian Bradford (Brad) at the Association of Land Rover Clubs National Championships held at Baden hall, Eccleshall.

Brad was competing in the RTV (Road Taxed Vehicle) class (4) in his "new" defender Pinky against 235 competitors, and the CCV (Cross Country Vehicle) class (1) in Nelly, his series 1 standard 80". Having paid the princely sum of £50 to the Dark Lord of Turning Circles he had high expectations within this Class. This non-timed (but potentially damaging) agility trial was contested by just under 200 vehicles.

Following the competition Brad commented by saying “I had high hopes which were well and truly dashed. My apologies to the throngs who waited for us at the second section of the RTV on Saturday, we never got there. Having vowed to "give it our best shot" Sarah and I came to grief on the first section of the day with Pinky losing drive to the front wheels as we climbed a steep and slippery bank. This bitterly disappointing and painfully expensive experience saw us finish last on the day with 140/144 points. Ouch!

Sunday's CCV was, as they say, another day. With Nelly running like clockwork Tom and I only had the weather and the National Championship to contend with. Slopes which had been navigable in dry conditions became impassable in the constant cold rain. Several competitors found it difficult to keep their feet (ahem), let alone drive the course. In the end we finished with a huge score (only slightly higher than most apparently), but at least we finished to fight again another day.

Many thanks to Tony Barber and Landranger Services for the loan of vehicles (ongoing!) and my sponsors Lodge Tyres and Titanic Brewery”.

Results now published. I finished last in the RTV (208th) but only just ! I finished a creditable 139th /180 in the CCV, 5th in class!
