The Potteries based brewery is bucking the trend of pub closures by opening The White Star in Stoke town centre. Titanic Brewery has been able to open The White Star and The Greyhound in a deal with Everards of Leicestershire who own both pubs. Everards beer will be on sale alongside Titanic’s award winning range of real ales and stout. Dave Bott, joint owner of Titanic Brewery, said: “It is pleasing that, at a time when we hear much doom and gloom about the industry, Titanic is opening new pubs. Our pubs are part of the community they serve and by bringing old pub buildings back to life, we are helping to regenerate the North Staffordshire area in which our business is based.” Well known Stoke City reporter Nigel Johnson will pull a ceremonial pint to mark the opening. Veteran BBC Radio Stoke broadcaster Nigel – known widely as ‘the voice of Stoke City’ following over 35 years behind the microphone – will join invited guests at a special celebration event (see notes to editors). Mr Bott said: “With Stoke City having achieved at least a Championship play off place and having a great chance of automatic promotion to the Premiership we felt it would be fitting to have a Potters’ theme as part of the opening celebrations. “We are delighted that Nigel, who is the public face of Stoke City to thousands of listeners, has agreed to join us for the event.” The White Star is situated in Stoke town centre, not far from the football club’s former Victoria Ground home. |
